Monday...What a day

Today being Monday could have been a bad day but it wasn't! There are a few reasons that have influenced this day. I could tell you about them but instead I will list them because who doesn't love a good list?  So here we go!
1. Tagalongs aka Peanut Butter Patties of the Girl Scout Variety arrived in the mail for me today and I couldn't be more thrilled.

2. Anne of Green Gables  Anyone who knew me in 6th grade or middle school knows that I LOVE Anne. Heck, I even was Anne in Anne of Green Gables in middle school. We are reading Anne of Green Gables right now in my Child's Lieterature class. It was very interesting to go back through and read Anne as an adult.

3. The due date on my paper got pushed from this Wednesday to next Monday!

Ok really those are the main reasons that have put me in a good mood but lets hope that more splendid things transpire that put me in an even better mood!!  I hope everyone is having a splendid Monday!

5 Things I Miss About Home

As much as I love it here at CBU there are many things that I miss about home. The range from little to big things but I miss them all the same and will be very glad to return to.

1. My Bed.  As strange as it sounds I really miss my bed at home. Here I have a rather pleasantly comfortable twin bed with a single pillow. At home, however, I have a full size bed with three pillows and some blankets which makes it extra cozy. Yes, this is sad I realize but I can't help it.

2. My Friends.  This is kind of obvious. As much as I love my friends that I've made here at CBU I really miss my friends at home and being able to text or call them whenever I feel like it. I am looking forward to seeing all of my friends as soon as I get home.

3. My Cat.  I miss my kitty cat Lucy (and I suppose that I miss Izzy too). I feel I don't need an explanation for this one. She is my kitty and I miss her crazy antics and our late night cuddle sessions. I just hope she has missed me as much as I've missed her.

4. My Family.  This is a duh.

5. Target and Costoco.  These are really shallow but I don't care!!! I miss the convience of Target and Costco. Both are just minutes away from my house so I seem to spend a lot of time there. They both support my book buying habit and provide me with yummy snacks that I miss. I mean where else can I get a years supply of mac and cheese?

A simple list filled with very important things to miss.

5 Things To Miss About CBU

As my time here on the Cape is coming to an end I've been thinking about all the things that I'm going to miss. So I've decided to make a list of the top 5 things I'm going to miss about being here at CBU.

1. My Friends. I think this one is rather obvious but I must say it. I have met and befriended some of the most amazing people here. I hope to remain friends with them for a long long while. And a note to any who are reading you are always welcome to come visit me. I will always have a couch available for you to crash on.

2. The Pit. I'm going to miss the convenience of having a bar on campus where everyone goes on the weekends and were the atmosphere is laid back and not completely hectic.

3. 3 Day Weekend. For most departments classes are only Monday thru Thursday so this entire term I have enjoyed a three day weekend every single weekend. I have quite enjoyed this because it allows me a day to be lazy and do no homework, if I so choose, but still gives me two days to do said homework. I shall really miss this when I go back to WOU and have class five days a week.

4. My Classes. As much as I may complain about them some days I really do enjoy my classes as a whole. My professors say many hilarious things that keep me in stitches for days after. My history prof and folklore prof will be missed the most. They have imparted many magical moments into my memories and much knowledge about Canada and the society and history of Cape Breton.

5. The Snow. The snow and I have had a love hate relationship this semester. Being from the Willamette Valley in Oregon I hadn't really dealt with this much snow as a day to day thing ... ever. I however got accustomed to the snow very quickly and have come to enjoy it. It will be greatly missed next winter when I am stuck with just the Oregon rain.

This is just a short list of things that I will miss about going to CBU. There are many others but I feel this is the best list that I can make. I hope everyone enjoys it.

Oh Canada

This week I feel that I should share the Canadian national anthem with you. It was originally composed in French in 1880 and was not translated into English until 1906. The English lyrics have had a few revisions but have been the same since 1980 when it became the official national anthem of Canada.

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

What is this bright glow in the sky?

I repeat. What is this bright glow in the sky? That's right the sun has come out here on CB, at least for a little while, and we are having a heat wave with weather reaching 45 degrees! To bad the 'warm' weather is only going to last for the weekend before we head back to below freezing but hey it was a wonderful break. I even braved the weather and wore flip-flops and a skirt yesterday (I did have a sweater on though).

Compare this:

To this:

February 2, 2011
I think it is clear how much the weather has changed here but I'll let you be the judge of that. Happy travels!

Men of the Deeps, Cape Breton

This song is about the mining that happened in this region of Cape Breton Island.  It is "a vignette of coal mines in New Waterford and Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, featuring traditional Cape Breton folk songs sung by Men of the Deeps, a miners' choral group."  Beware it was produced in 1978 so it is a little dated.

Great Big Sea for Canada Games 2011

I know I talked about going to the Great Big Sea concert last week in Halifax but I really want you to know the amazing feeling that there was in the audience and that their music brings to people. So without further explanation enjoy the high energy that started off the concert and continued through the entire show.

Great Big Sea - Ordinary Day

Here is another song from the concert!
Great Big Sea - When I'm Up (I Can't Get Down)

P.S. Yes there are flashing lights on everyone's heads. They gave out free flashing glasses for the concert.
